Carolina and the Waves

She is young and already the best in the world in her field. When she moves her fingers, sounds of divine beauty emerge — Carolina plays her instrument without touching it. She is a master of the theremin and she is on a mission: to reintroduce the world to this largely forgotten electronic instrument invented by Russian physicist Leon Theremin a century ago.

In the midst of her rapidly rising career, this daughter of an East German electronic musician with roots in the traditional Sorbian ethnic minority is on a much more basic quest: to find her identity as a musician, to break free from the confines of her cultural tradition, and ultimately find freedom for herself amidst a demanding and competitive music industry.
