Remember Diego Garcia
Remember Diego Garcia is the story of a secret between Raymonde and her son Desire, who was born on a boat bearing the Union Jack, in the middle of the Indian Ocean in 1973. Raymonde gave birth to Desire went she, and the entire population of the Chagos Islands, were forcibly deported to make way for the American military base on Diego Garcia. Today both mother and son live as exiles in England, forever forbidden to return to their "paradise island".
While investigating his hidden heritage and his unusual birth, Desire meets John L., a former British RAF soldier who was stationed on Diego Garcia during the cold war, and other experts who offer him an alternative view of Diego Garcia’s history. He discovers that behind the illegal US-UK lease on the territory of Diego Garcia, which expires in 2016, lies a disturbing secret which his own mother still refuses to disclose - that his parents were slaves on the island they called paradise yet are still bound to a secret code of silence.
