Alessandro Belleli
Born in Trentino, Italy, Alessandro Belleli is an arctic anthropologist, photographer and filmmaker with a big weak side: a systematic attraction towards the South. Coming from an area in between cultures, he has always been drawn toward opposite directions.
His travels and researches began in 2001: their starting points is an irrepressible curiosity, the anthropological belief that reality is immensely more mysterious than what one can see or observe. In order to understand something of a place and of its people it is necessary to take time: participate in their ways of living.
Since his first trip, he has lived, studied and worked in various places, as the "Calexican" San Diego (2001 and 2024), the vibrant and effervescent Utrecht (2005), the grumbling and fascinating Genoa (2008-2010), the controlled boiling ice, Copenhagen ( 2010-2020), the edge of terrestrial life of Kangerlussuaq (GL, 2011), the immense jungle of concrete of Sao Paolo (BR, 2012) and Tromsoe, the “Arctic capital” (NO, 2013-now).
As an anthropologist, photographer and filmmaker, he has worked in Denmark, Western Greenland, Brazil, Norway and California. His works have been shown and published by the National Italian TV RAI, the National Norwegian TV NRK and by the Italian Polar Institute.
