Generation Fear
A quarter of a century ago a wave of hope spread around the world: It was the end of the Cold War. The Wall came down, the nuclear threat seemed over, the EU bloomed. Scholars proclaimed "the end of history," politicians envisioned a new world: One of democracy, prosperity and freedom. But they were wrong. Today we live in a world shaped by counter-terrorism and border control. There are more walls separating states than ever, society is under constant surveillance, the security industry makes billions. What happened? This film is a historical investigation with an autobiographical tinge, exploring the 30 years of my lifetime.
Supported by researchers, whistle-blowers, politicians and industry players, the filmmaker discover what has created the world he lives in, how it works and what defines his generation.
