Ghosts of Utopia

The demolition of Naples’ infamous Le Vele estate has begun. The architect’s original vision was for a utopian “city of the future”. But as the dream collapsed, Le Vele’s towering labyrinths became a criminal hub. So will the demolition bring a new dawn, or tear apart a resilient community?

Our film will uncover the intimate daily realities of life in the building, revealing a hidden world of hope and determination inside. We meet residents who are fighting both for the demolition and against it, and witness how the community, bound together by the challenges of life in the estate, strives to create a home in the inhuman environment. As Le Vele’s final chapter draws near, the film explores how residents respond to the dramatic change in their lives.
