Industry Training Talks at DOK.fest Munich
In partnership with DOK.forum at DOK.fest München and in cooperation with Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), we are announcing a series of international Industry Training Talks at DOK.fest München from 1-3 May 2024.
Taking place at HFF University of Film and Television Munich, this innovative event will bring together filmmakers and industry professionals to explore new ways of producing content for media libraries and the transformative role of artificial intelligence in documentary filmmaking.
The first of the talks titled “Media Libraries: Opportunities and Challenges for Creators” will take place on 1 May and focus on new ways of producing content for media libraries, tackling questions of successful approaches and formats as well as creating a positive audience response.
On 2-3 May our focus will turn to new technologies with keynotes, discussion panels and practical workshops under the title “AI in Documentary: Exploring New Frontiers.” Participants will have the opportunity to explore the ethical considerations, narrative potential and cutting-edge AI technologies that are shaping the future of documentary storytelling. This initiative provides a platform for first-hand interaction with leading experts and pioneers at the forefront of integrating AI into the creative process.

Opening Keynote. Prompting A New Language for Cinema
In 2016 Werner Herzog proclaimed “A computer will never make a film as good as mine in 4,500 years”. Yet here we are only a few years later, and large language models, video generation, synthetic voice over and automatic editing is rapidly becoming part of the filmmaking process.
In this opening keynote producer Mads Damsbo will reflect on the complex and delicate process of making a film written by an AI, trained on the body of work of Werner Herzog. He will touch upon the potential of human-machine co-creation and it's limitations, and ultimately try to give an answer to the question on everyones lips - What is our role as filmmakers in the age of artificial intelligence?
