Glowing In The Dark Again

From underground innovation to global influence, the Minimal Synth Movement rewrote the rules of music, blending cold electronics, DIY ethos and a thirst for freedom. Glowing In The Dark Again explores the genesis and evolution of this genre born in the late 1970s, made of stripped-down electronics, hypnotic rhythms and dark, minimalist aesthetics. Through interviews with pioneering acts including The Normal, Crash Course in Science and Das Ding, the film uncovers how these artists used limited technology and self-made recordings to subvert traditional music norms. We also follow the movement into the present day, where contemporary acts like Martial Cantarel and Adult continue the heritage, alongside labels such as Minimal Wave and Mannequin Records that have kept the sound alive. This documentary traces Minimal Synth’s lasting impact on underground music, club culture and even mainstream genres, offering a rare glimpse into an art form that thrives on innovation, rebellion and authenticity.
